Closet flange height

I'm installing a TOTO Drake unit on a closet flange that is 3/4ths of an inch below the tile surface. Should I use an extender and bring the flange level with the new floor surface or does the flange need to be 1/2 inch above the floor surface. Which gasket is appropriate in the level case and the 1/2 inch above case.

Do you have access from below? If you do, I'd cut the old pipe and put in a coupling, pipe, and a new flange. But, otherwise, I'd do one of two things: either use a waxless seal which has a funnel that will make the connection deep enough in the pipe so the height won't matter, or use enough extenders to get it about 1/4" above the finished floor. A 1/2" is too much.

I had a similar situation after tiling our 2 bathrooms. I looked at the Fluidmaster and Fernco waxless seals, and decided to go with the Fernco units. As jad says above, either of those brands will extend far enough into the closet bend to make the seal there.

I personally like the way the Fernco has an adhesive which glues it to the toilet horn securely.
