The first home I owned had no seperate vent pipe for the kitchen sink, but my new home does. Is it neccessary as I am doing some remodeling and it is causing me some problems with location.
I am not sure what you mean by it "did not have a separate vent pipe", but your sink drain does have to have a vent pipe, but without seeing your situation we cannot tell you how to run it.
It depends - when we remodeled our kitchen there was no separate vent for the sink (the old one). It was 18" from the stack so it was using it for the vent. We moved it a few feet away so I installed a vent for it this time.

Yes,vents are absolutely necessary. You should not eliminate a vent to a fixture. There are different ways to vent and there is always a proper solution on any job.
