hello all, first time post, looks like a cool site. Have a major problem. Have had same kitchen drain for 10 years. Vents all clear, trap on kichen sink is full of water. I have this moldy, musty smell in the kichen sink thats driving me insane. The sink drains super. We[wife and I] have dumped ammonia, plumbers helper, baking soda, and still have smell. I do have plumbing experience and am a hvac contractor so this is embarassing to say the least. Buddy said maybe hoses on the hot, cold water are bad. The hot is 12" of the hard gray plastic, and the hot is 2' of same. the drain pipe is galvy rest is pvc, water pipes are copper. Guys and ladies Im really at a loss, any help appreciated Victor

Do you have a garbage disposal unit? If so the mold smell can be coming from the chamber. What I do to clean out my disposal unit is fill it with ice cubes, turn it on with out running any water let it grind the ice cubes till it looks like a snow cone constancy, then run a trickle of water. The water will cause the ice to refreeze and get ground up again. The ice crystals will scourer the chamber clean.

If you do not have a disposal unit, or it is clean. The only other thing I can think of is water is getting between the counter top and the sink lip. This is more common with under mount sinks, but can happen with drop in units as well.

I have had bad taste come out of faucet supplies.

One woman I know was buying bottled water for drinking until I replaced two supply lines.

Nailed it!

I like the ice in the disposer trick too.
Sometimes something like Bio-Clean helps too for some smells.

Here is the p-trap for the kitchen sink.
It drained a lot better after fixing the grade to the drain, and snaking the line.
Of course new parts underneath too.

Sewerratz thankyou, no I dont have a gargage disposal, and my wife is a clean nut, no mold or water under sink rim. The dam smell comes out of the drain. Todat I put water into two seperate containers[hot, cold] to smell and theres no smell. If water was bad or a bad hose under sink food would taste funny. You know,, even if I had to degrade my self and hire a plumber I dont think theres anything left to check thay I havent already, thanks

Terry thanks, nice site.
Like I said Im almost out of tricks. Same plumbing set up, nothing changed, only thing left is maybe a leak in the pipe that runs to the main, but it would stink in crawl not sticking your nose in the drain, thanks Victor

Terry,
The ice also cleans the grinding plate in the disposal units, so they grind like they are new again. I been told by a couple of my customers that they add a little lemon juice to the ice to help give it a pleasant smell.

Oh I forgot to mention when you turn the water on a trickle while grinding the ice, it will back up a bit, do not worry as it keeps grinding its dislodging muck in the unit and it will drain again. Just let the water run the trickle till all the ice is gone.

Take apart the pipes under the sink and replace if really bad. At that time you can check the pipe going into the wall. Does it look like it's packed full of slimy yumminess¿ Might be time to administer Bio Clean (NEVER LIQUID PLUMBER OR THAT TYPE OF PRODUCT.) And yes, Bio Clean needs to be a regular maintenance procedure to be effective.
