Leaking joint

Hey everyone!
I have this going on in my house (see attached). I have no idea what kind of pipe or what kind of joint that is...I'm a student here...but I would really like to fix this. Can someone please help?

It is PEX and the plastic fitting has cracked.

You can use a Sharkbite couping to fix this.

That crud gives PEX a bad name. I say down with inferior PEX and fittings.
