Hey gang ... I am in the process of purchasing a house and had the water turned on about a month ago for inspection. Water worked fine. Left the water on with the water company, but turned off in the house. Appraiser came 2 weeks ago and agent turned on the valve in master bath and water worked fine. Agent turned off water at the valve in MB. Go to steam clean carpets and no water??? We went back to look again yesterday and there was water on the MB floor (not flooding, but enough to wet the floor down). Could there be any kind of defect with the valve in the MB? It is the knob type like a water spicket outside. How difficult are these to replace?

Thanks in Advance

You say you turned off the main valve to the house, but when the agent came, he had water in the master bath......sounds like the main shutoff leaks by. Hard to tell why the water on the floor.

When we tried having the carpets cleaned on Thurs., that was the first time we went to the inside valve and turned it on and no water would come through any of the faucets. When we left, we made sure the valve was shut off and planned to return Sun when my father-in-law could also look at it. That is when the water was on the floor and the sheet rock around the valve was damp. We tried turning the water on again and no water would come out of any of the faucets, but just 2 weeks ago all the water faucets were working???

Sounds like the dreaded, old gate valve main has broken off inside...

Thanks for the diagram ... how easy are these to replace, or should I be looking at professional help?

Just call a plumber, have him change it, and be done with it...I would also have him check all the valves in the home for leaks while he is there...
