Hi,

I'm starting a remodel of my bathroom and moving toilet location. So--new subfloor, new tile, new DWV, etc. I plan on purchasing the skirted Soiree.

Since this is a skirted model, what is your take on whether I should tile so that the flange sits on the tile, requiring drilling of the tile. OR--put a layer of plywood equal to the tile height on the subfloor, so flange is at the right height and screwing the flange and Toto rear adapter right into the doubled layer of plywood. The skirt would cover all of this.

I assume that the toilet will last a while--any problems other than if someone later changes out the toilet?

Thanks,
John

This flange was installed using a flanger riser underneath.
The tile was cut around that.

Drop down a wax seal and the adapter and the toilet is ready to install.

With the right drill bit, installing on top of the tile is the right way to go. Most people want all the height they can get, so you don't want it recessed and getting the ply exactly the right height probably wouldn't come out exact. Not that you would expect to change out the toilet, but if you did, the holes from the adapter would likely be hidden by the new toilet whereas the ply wouldn't be.
