Hi all,
I'm buying an older home with leaking cast iron:eek: (only in 2 spots luckily) basically I'm being required to have all the plumbing replaced with copper (wife/lender requirement)..lol. It has 1 kitchen 2 bathrooms in a 1268 sqft home. Crawl space of about 18-24" home is a perfect rectangle. The lines will basically do a "U" shape from the entrance to the far bath. Can anyone tell me what I can expect to pay a pro plumber in California?

Thanks a ton,
Robert

Can't even give you a good guess, without more pictures. Are we talking about water supply, or drain? If water, the original is galvanized, not cast, and replacing with all copper is a good choice. Copper will cost you more in material, and PEX is now coming in to code approval in much of CA. Many plumbers will tell you that despite the history in other countries, the jury is still out as to whether PEX can be expected to give you the 25 to 50 expected life of a copper water system. Repiping a 1200 sq. foot house with a crawl space I would just throw out this range....$3k to $5k. That is sight unseen, assumes that your crawl space is not too icky and has some room to wiggle around! Get some bids.

By the way, if you are talking cast iron DRAINS, forget copper. Ridiculous. Use ABS.

IF the water pipes are cast iron, then they are all 2" and larger, which would be bad, as far as the wallet is concerned, if they have to be replaced.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. It is the water supply that will need replacing. I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to ask for price guidance. Sorry about that. I had been looking all over and I could find any guidelines on price per linear foot. I understand of course nobody can give a quote sight unseen, I was just looking for a general guide.
Thanks again

The problem with trying to get a price on a job over the internet is that labor rates vary quite a bit across the country...

A plumber in New Canaan, Connecticut where the per capita income is $82,049 might just charge a tad bit more than a plumber in French Camp, Mississippi where the per capita income is $5,047...

If you were to take the French Camp plumbers quote and try to find the plumber who would do it at that price you could be looking for a long time. On the other hand if you tried to find someone to do the job as quoted by the New Canaan plumbers quote you might have quite a few willing to do it and you would be paying way too much...

I assure you the plumber in New Canaan has much higher operating costs and the prices vary accordingly...
