Mansfield Toilet Flush Problem

Hello,

I have a Mansfield 160 toilet. It was slowly leaking water into the bowl and refilling the tank. I tried replacing the flush valve seal and this did not stop the problem. I replaced the entire flush valve and this stopped the leak, but... now when I flush the bowl empties and begins to refill a little way and then empties again. Then it fills like normal and stops like normal.

Any idea why I have this extra fill-and-drain in the bowl? Is there a simple adjustment I can make in the tank to stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! :)

Pam

Thank you for the speedy reply. "Wrong flush valve" was my first thought but... we were told the one we used was the right one.

The flush valve we removed (my husband and I) was a 211. The one we replaced it with is 210, but the 210 is a Universal flush valve for 1.6gpf Mansfield toilets, and it was my understanding that it should work properly in place of the 211. In fact, my local stores only carry the 210, supposely because it is universal and can be used to replace the 211.

Could this weird flushing action be the "water saver" feature of the 210 flush valve? I mean, that sounds silly to me because it seems like MORE water is being used but... I don't know these things. I thought I'd ask.

Does anyone know for sure if this is incorrect information? I will attempt to contact Mansfield later today when I get the chance, but I suspect you are right... this must be the wrong flush valve. UGH!

The 210 and 211 despite looking similar are in fact very different.
The 210 is a 3.5 gallon per flush valve, and the 211 is a 1.6 gallon per flush valve.

You do not have the low volume flush valve, or have the wrong flapper if you used a conventional flush valve. The excess water causes the double flush.

Well, it appears we received some misinformation at the hardware store. Looks like we'll have to take the 210 out and make sure to get the 211 this time! Thanks for the help!

Well, it wasn't complete MIS-information I got. Mansfield says that the 210 will work fine, as long as I got the right height (11.5") but it will use twice as much water as necessary.
