I have a outdoor faucet leak on my house. Actually it is now all 3 of my outdoor faucets. The visible issue is nothing leaks until I turn on the water, and the leaking is occuring behind the wall, whether it be the garage floor, the front of my home ,or the adjacent wall. No leaks outside or inside when the valve outside is in the off position, but turn either three of them on and you can see water start to run from below the structure closest to it. There is a vacuum breaker(I think that's what it's called)on the faucet. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem. Remember it only leaks when I turn the knob to the on position, and I can clearly see water coming from my structure. Not a small leak, a small stream.

You have 3 ruptured frost proof hose faucets and they will need to be replaced.
Did you leave the hoses on them all winter?

The actual shut off occurs deep inside the house, but when the hoses are left on, the tube will not drain and the water will freeze and split the tube. That's why the water will not leak during the winter and will still turn off without leaking.

In Winter, you need to remove the garden hose so they will drain down.

Thanks guys. To answer the question though,no I didn't leave a hose on them. I''m wondering if they were properly installed in the first place. My home is only 3 years old and I live in Atlanta,GA where the winters are not brutal.

If there was a downward slope to them, then water would not drain from the tube. There does not need to be much slope to the outside, but certainly no slope to the inside. It does not have to be a "brutal" winter to freeze and split pipes.

Really cold weather isn't needed. Reaching the freezing point does it. Water actually gets less dense as the temp drops lower than 32 F.

You got me on that one. It did snow a couple weeks ago,the weather here is crazy .
