Better than Toto Drake?

Just over 5 years ago, I installed 2 Toto Drake ADA height elongated bowl toilets (largely on the recommendations of folks on this forum). I have never needed to flush twice or use a plunger on either. One was packed with the wrong tank gasket (it's too thick), and while Toto sent me a replacement, I still haven't bothered to change it. The tank is not rock solid, but it doesn't leak and really isn't that loose. My major complaint with the toilets is that they do a poor job of "wash down", and require cleaning after almost every solid waste flush.

I now need to replace another toilet. It's an inexpensive Kohler that has been nothing but trouble. Is there anything out there with the reliability of the Toto Drake that does a better job of cleaning the bowl?

no. it might be a low flow thing. my cadet 3 is great but even this needs a clean every now and again.

Some of the newest Totos have 'double-cyclone' flush that is reported to have better bowl wash.

Toto Vespin II CST474CEFG with SS114 Softclose seat.
This bowl was installed on a 13-1/2" rough-in using the 14" Unifit adapter.
The water shutoff can be as close as 5-1/2" to the left of center, unless it's higher off the floor, and then it can be even closer to center.
This shutoff had been replaced with a new 1/4 turn valve with brass nipple through the wall.
Installation was by James Love of Love Plumbing & Remodel 206-949-5683
In some of the older Seattle homes, the old toilets had been wall mounted tank toilets.
Those typically are 14" rough-in and need a flange repair to use standard closet bolt connections at the flange.
Everything is on the truck for that.
The Vespin comes with a standard 12" adapter or you can order a 10" or 14" adapter depending on your rough-in distance.

Getting a bowl with CEFIONTECT helps

You can get CEFIONTECT in
Drake CST744EG
Vespin CST764SG
Ultramax MS854114SG
Carlyle MS874114SG
Promenade CST424SFG
Gwyneth CST454CEFG
Gwyneth MS604114CEFG
Soiree MS964214CFG
Guinevere MS974224CFG

And like Ian mentions, with 1.6 gallons there is only so much you can do.
The 3.5's haven't been made for seventeen years.

I installed two toto drakes almost two months ago and have had no "wash down" issues and so perhaps something is different in the product. Either that or its our diets:D

Some people tend to sit closer to the front of the toilet. It depends on where you 'aim' things, too.

It seems that only a few models come with CEFIONTECT in Sedona Beige (the color my wife wants). The Vespin is one of them. How well does it flush compared to the Drake? And how easy is a Unifit install? I've done plenty of wax rings on the flange installs and re-seatings, but I've never seen one of those Unifit things before.

A standard flange on a tile floor.

Once you have installed the adapter, you drop the bowl over it,
Snug now the rear nuts
Caulk around the bowl.
Done

The adapter uses standard bowl wax for the seal at the floor flange.
The spigot of the bowl drops into the rubber gromment on the adapter. A little liquid soap helps to lube it.

I have a Vespin (in Sedona beige) and a Carlyle (cotton white) in my condo...work fine, never clogged. I don't have problems with skid marks, water spot is fairly large. The only thing some people notice is that the plastic trapway doesn't muffle water drainage as much as a porcelain one does. Most people don't notice it after a week or so, but as with any toilet, when you add something, some water goes over the weir and down the drain...if you are listening, you can hear this...no big deal.

If you have tile, you may need to pick up a carbide, or diamond bit to drill holes...again, no big deal.
