I have an old Carrier (1991) that I have replaced most of the parts on.

Here is my problem.

The furnace works fine but I noticed yesterday that the ignitor sometimes keeps clicking even when the burner is fully lit and the blower is going.

The furnace is working fine, but why does it sometimes keep clicking?

I'd say flame sensor, but if that wasn't working, normally, it wouldn't allow the gas valve to stay open...

That's what I thought. It's a three wire pilot assembly.

If I replace it any tips on reconnecting the gas pilot line?

I do not know what to expect with that.

Or have I overstepped the mark now?

I am guessing it works something like this and that my pilot is showing early signs of failure. It clicks sporadically. I am wondering if the occassional (and not regular) nature of the spark is what is keeping the gas valve open and the blower going. Again any tips on reconnecting the gas pilot line would be appreciated. I have not touched one of these before. When this is changed, the only original parts will be the blower, main gas valve and the heat exchanger.

*EDIT* Oops open should be closed and closed should be open.

I take it you do not like me doing my own gas work even on a pilot light?
