Hello, great site BTW. I am having to replace my shower due to a horrible installation by the builder. Anyway, I'm removed everything, down to the studs and concrete slab. I want to replace with a Kerdi system, but I'm not sure how to remove the existing drain. The drain is a PVC pipe coming up from the slab and the drain, of course is attached. My concern is it's cemented in, but I don't know if that's how it's done or not.

Well, depending on how the shower was constructed, the drain may be glued on, or it could be a compression fit...can you post a picture? Sometimes, if it is glued on, you can make some saw cuts through the flange in a few places and peel it off. Keep in mind that if it is glued on, it is actually a solvent weld...it literally melts the surface and then welds itself together, so splitting the parts apart might make a mess. Worst case, you crack some concrete and replace part of the riser. You might have to do that anyways, since the Kerdi drain is fairly wide and dished and, especially on a slab, the pan doesn't need to be very thick at the drain, so the drain may actually have parts below the surface.
