I am looking to replace my thermostat and my humidifier control. I'd like one unit to control both. Any recommendations?

I don't need the top of the line unit, but I would like some basic programming capability and it might be nice if it had an outside temp feature.

I've looked online, but the prices are all over from $100+ up to $500-1000. I just get lost looking.....

This was recommended by one company.

Is Honeywell good or is there a better brand? I can get it for around $135-$160 online. Haven't found it locally yet.

I've used Honeywell controls over the years on a couple of places...they've worked well. The adaptive learning functions are nice...you set the time you want the house at a particular temperature, and it learns how long it takes to get there.

This one you've found is more complex than most, but it does offer more capability.

I've found that once set, I do not change my humidistat setting, so I've used the Aprilaire supplied control with outside sensor input. It turns it off when it gets warm outside and adjusts the levels based on the humidity value you set to provide the frost control of this one.

The ability to control multiple zones or have remote sensors is a nice feature. What I did notice is that they don't say how to connect them on any of the linked installation manuals...you might have to find the actual sensor, and get it's installation manual.

I do like the Honeywell IAQ stat. Has humidity control and quite a number of other nice features (most of which I learned about on another DIY site which has a separate "humidifiers" part of their forum).

For example, with the Honeywell unit, you can change the settings for how many heating or cooling cycles occur per hour, or change whether the humidifier comes on 1) only when furnace comes on; 2) any time the fan is on; or 3) whenever the humidistat says the house needs humidity, including turning on the fan just for the humidifier's use.

Thanks for the feedback. I also like that it is adaptive and could adapt as/if my needs change.

I normally leave my fan on all the time, so my humidifier runs all the time, but like you say, it looks like I can set this controller to turn on at different intervals. I also like that it has a setting to help control frost on he windows. That is also a common problem in my old house.

I think I'll place the order, thanks again.....

i agree - the frost setting is nice, and the "adaptive" control is too.

On that "other" DIY site I mentioned, the HVAC pros there really do like this unit and recommend it highly. I see why now.

One other feature I recently read about - you can set it so that in the summer the AC will come on even if the ambient temperature is at the stat's set point. For example, let's say the set temp for the stat is 72 degrees, and the house is at 72 degrees - but the relative humidity is too high. You can set it so that the AC will come on to dehumidify the house even though it will mean dropping the temperature below the set point.
