Is it possible to use a saddle tee in wall/ Code? would make it easier, but usually the easy way is the wrong way.

Thanks for all the input

THis is from the Illinois plumbing code. Again I state Illinois code is pretty strict, it may be allowed in your area, so its always best to check with your local plumbing inspector.

The drilling and tapping of house drains, soil, waste, waterlines or vent pipes, and the use of saddle hubs, bands and sleeves is prohibited.

Most of us won't use a saddle tee for an ice maker because they are so prone to fail. Why would you even consider a 3" much less enclosed in a wall?

Imagine a large saddle for a water main blowing off. Oh did I menation it was next to O Hare airport? It shut down the airport till they where able to get a repair clamp over that live main, then they installed a new saddle and hot tapped it a few feet away. I am till this day waiting for that one to blow off, but that was 20+ years ago.

The ones that blow off typically have steel "U" bolts. The better ones have brass bolts and do not rust away.

Well, thats confirmation. After looking at the problem and taking a break and looking again and a few more holes with the sawzall. Should be able to get the tee in there.

How about a steel banded fernco. Or rubber coupling with the Steel band.

Thanks

A Fernco Proflex #3001-33 should be just what you need for connecting 3" ABS to 3" Copper.
