Hello, my house is 3 years old.

Periodically, our hot water pressure lessens to all of our faucets on both levels of the house. Sometimes, almost immediately, we hear a large clunk and the water pressure returns.

Other times, we have no hot water for upwards of an hour. We leave all the faucets on at full-blast to hot and nothing will come out, until eventually, we hear the clunk and the water returns. (Also, fiddling with the sink faucet in the bathroom will force some cold water out of the bath tap. ??)

Does anyone know what could cause this problem and how to fix it?

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

If you have heat traps on the water heater, they could be sticking and shutting off the water flow.
