Hello everyone. We are remodeling our bathroom and have decided to move our vanity away from the entrance. This will entail moving the supply lines as well as the drain line. I am attaching a picture of the current plumbing. The change will require moving the drain to the next bay to the left. My question is what is the best way of doing this? The wall is framed with 2" x 6" so there is some room to work with the wall stud. I can easily move the supply lines but am concerned about routing the drain properly.

Thanks for any assistance,
Mike

The pipe on the left runs straight up through my roof. The smaller pipe on the right goes straight up for about 3 feet then makes a 90 degree bend to the left and re-enters the larger vent pipe on the left.

Is there another drain tying in between those 2 points?

Is there any drainage coming down that pipe?

No. This is the top of the system. No drains above. It is a single pipe with no breaks, just goes up 3 feet turns and is reattached to the larger vent pipe. I assume that it is there to prevent suction from slowing the flow of the drain that you see in the picture. There is nothing entering the larger vent pipe above this point either, other than what I have just stated.

Here is what I would like to do. My questions are:

1 - Can I just cap off the old "drain vent" on the right hand side?
2 - Do I need to add some type of similar vent to the new drain line on the left hand side?
3 - What is the best way to remove the old "Y" fitting and install a new one in the other direction? Is there something that will dissolve the old pipe dope or do I have to cut it out? Any hints on installing a new one in this tight space with pipes fixed in position would be appreciated.
4 - Anything else that I am not thinking about that must be done?

Thanks again.
Mike

What I would do is cut out the existing wyes and put in a new piece of pipe with one of these sani-tee's to the sink drain.
Note there is direction built into this fitting.
