I'm starting a basement remodle (design stage) and I have an issue with a floor drain. I want to some of that corrugated plastic protection with plywood on top something like this http://www.extremehowto.com/xh/hotprod_images/subunder.jpg

and then carpet, however what to do with the floor drain do I cover over it.

As well I don't think the old drain is vented, but if I add a new floor drain for the washer and vent it throught the wall will this be a proper vent vent to the old drain. aa.JPG

Quite often what is shown in a picture, and what is actually installed are two different things. But to start with, you cannot use the "S" trap that you show in both pictures. Then, the vent has to either go out the roof, or be connected to an existing active vent, not stuck out through the wall.
