While locating and fixing a leak in our drain line, we came upon what looks like a cut vent line. It seems to be capped (if you want to call it that). They capped it with a piece of flat copper and sodered to the pipe. The pipe is held up by a rusty old nail under the 'cap'. This contraption is now leaking because of extensive corrosion. I believe a new vent line was moved a foot down the line. Before I replace my ceiling drywall, I'd like to take care of this pesky dripper.
If I cut this old vent line, what can I expect? What is the best way to cap it correctly and to secure it?
Are there other suggestions on how to handle this?
Thanks
