4 bolt toilet?

In my basement my toilet has 4 bolts, can I go out and buy a 2 bolt toilet and replace the 4 bolter?

I have never seen one with 4 bolts, is this very unusual?

Can you still buy ones with 4 bolts?

Looking to put in a new 6 Liter per flush toilet.

I don't know of any 4 bolt toilet made today.
The rear set of bolts are what would be used with a new toilet.

So, What would I do?

Take the toilet off and below would be a 'normal' closet flange, and just remove one set of bolts, OR do I have to replace the closet flange with one that only uses 2 bolts?

Oh, I should have added that this toilet is in the basement and is sitting on the concrete floor.

You will find that the front bolts screw into the floor.
Unscrew them or cut them off.

The second set was really just for fastening to the ground, but you've figured that out I'm sure.

The flange bolts you want to keep are the two that are centered on the drain hole and are parallel to the back wall. If the flange is in good condition, there would be no reason to replace it.

4 bolts

4 bolts go back to the 50's. You may find that the front ones are just dummies with caps on them. That is the way I used to install them.

Thanks all,

So, before I take the toilet outside and break it up I will make sure that the 2 near the front are anchored to the cement, and will cut them off (or unscrew them). I also, will need to measure the distance from the wall to the back set, to make sure I buy the right toilet. I hope it is standard distance. The main floor toilet was set at a standard distance, so I would think this one too would be.

3 weeks ago I pulled the caps off to see if this was the case, and it is not there are nuts on all 4.

The front ones are real bolts, but they do not connect with the drain...only into the floor. Modern toilets only use the two bolts that connect to the flange.
