Hi all,

Firstly, I want to thank Terry for an excellent site and wonderful resource.

I am looking to bring in a Toto WC to the UK, but I have come up against the EU and regulations...

Does anyone know if Toto Drake and other similar (but not washdown) toilets are "CE" marked? CE means ok for European installation.

There are two parts to this - flush valve endurance and WC pan flush effectiveness.

I am unsure of the Toto flush valve is certified for use in the UK, conforming to BS-1212*, so if it is not, I wonder if there are any after-market 3" flush valves that could be retro-fitted to a TOTO to make the valve compliant.

As for the Toto WC peformance itself, I am unsure if the Toto is CE marked and conforms to EN-997 (e.g. a bit like the MaP testing, IIRC).

Flush performance is alot easier to get sorted vs flush valve endurance (the UK needs a valve to pass 200,000 flushes...!!!!).

The UK has many after market 2" flush valves.

Alternatively, if there are any good WCs that run on less than 3" valves, e.g. 2" valves then that might be an alternative, but I suspect a 2" valve will hinder bowl operation.

For the record I am a fan of syphonic flushing and I despair over the "washdown" mechanism which seems to delight in leaving one piece of paper to swirl around...

Thanks in advance,

Tim

*The British Standard, BS-1212, is regarding toilet flush valve reliability. The UK was forced to give up its demand for syphon VALVES in 1999/2001, but now has an endurance requirement for valves instead. (The syphon valve - not flush - is VERY reliable and leak-proof but cannot easily do dual flush or lower flush volumes.

I would think there must be an enforcement agency in the UK that could give you the answer to you question. There are some users of this forum from the UK that might have good data as well, but getting a ruling from those who make and enforce the regulations would be my first choice.

Do you have any idea how long it has been since we have used "siphon flush valves" in the United States? They went out with the wall mounted overhead toilet tanks in the 20's and 30's. And you call us the "backward colonies".
