shower p-trap question (DWV)

Hi

Is it ok to swivel the end of the shower p-trap or does it have to be aligned in a straight line (looking from above)?

I found an example (not mine) of what I mean. You see how this trap is turned almost 90 degrees to the left. I don't need to do it at a 90, but maybe at a 45 (to place the drain where I want it)

That is why they make it with a swivel. It would be cheaper and easier to make the trap if they could make it in one piece like the old cast iron ones.
 
I like the old cast iron ones, it takes more skill and fittings to get it located where you need it. Also I still do the lead and oakum. I never was a fan of the rubber gaskets also known as TY seals.
