Toto drake problems

Please help.. I had a broken handle on my drake, I replaced the handle with the THU 068 the one with the bent arm. Every time I flush the arm hits the black tube that fills up the toilet. I have tried everything to fix it but it just seems too long is this the right part or am I missing something. I replaced the flapper as it was running but it still runs I think it has something to do with the handle. I am having comapny in a few days and need to fix this. Any suggestions Thanks

The rod is made of brass.
Have you tried bending it?

No, It's not common. I've bent generic brass rods when needed over the years, but I've never heard of the rod on a Drake tank having an issue before. But as you can see, it would take maybe a second or two to change it.
