Need Advice in Replacing a Sewage Ejector Pump

I installed a new sewage ejector pump in an inground tank in my son's basement about 10 years ago. The pump has died and, of course, is sitting in sewage. Any advice on how to work in the mess?

I thought I would pour holding tank chemicals into the tank to try to neutralize the sewage and then haul out most of the mess in buckets. Anyone have any better ideas?

I have a real nasty wet vac and buckets just for this task.
I get enough out to be able to get things opened up and get to work... I dump it back in when I get the new pump in.

Are you able to bypass the switch?
Sometimes if the switch is bad.....
Well ya just get lucky!

I think the pump is gone. It is unplugged now, but when I plug it in it just hums for a few seconds, then trips the GFI.

Could you tell me roughly what this job is worth, including a replacement pump? This may be a job I should leave to a pro.

It varies depending on the cost of the pump. I have no Idea what kind of labor rates are charged in Fla.
