I've got a couple shark bite caps on hot and cold water copper supply lines that I'm ready to remove and replace with valves (plumber put them on). I thought it would be a simple matter of pulling them off but they won't budge. What's up? Do I have to cut the pipe?

The tool listed in the sheet is not needed. An adjustable wrench adjusted to just fit over the pipe works fine.

Clicky here for the sharkbite instruction sheet (http://www.cashacme.com/_images/pdf_downloads/products/sharkbite/SB_Install_Inst.pdf)

You push in on the collar. Here is the installation guide which will show you how.

Oops. We both replied at the same time. What he said...

Thanks much fellas. :D One more question -- do I really need a special shark bite release tool or will a pair of needlenose pliars do? (or anything else that allows me to place pressure on the collar)

I suppose it would help if I actually read Redwood's reply in full -- again; muchas gracias!

what works good is just a common
plastic pipe hanger in 3/4 or 1/2

they are called bassit clamps around here

the kind that has two nails and it holds the
copper pipe up against a stud....

just slide it down the pipe and apply pressure
and the shark bite will come off..

I can usually use my fingernails to pull the ring back.

This guy might have a problem removing shark bites with his nails.

Sharkbites have a collar that has to be pushed in, not a ring that you pull out. Anything that puts pressure on both sides of the tubing at the same time will help remove them.
