American Standard Diverter Removal

Hello,

I am having trouble removing the diverter from a shower/tub. Diverter connects to cpvc pipe. I used a mirror and can see no allen head set screw (like some at Lowes) on the bottom. The builder of our house (house is 2 yrs old) said it should just unscrew. I have tried to unscrew it (CCW) and it feels like it's going to break.
