Just moved into a new house with a new drilled well. The well was drilled about six weeks ago. We moved in about four weeks ago and are getting a fair amount of grit that is causing problems with our washing machine....it has clogged the inlet screens twice so far and the flow slows to a trickle while filling the washer.

I called the well company and was told to let the water run from the spigot just under the pressure tank for a few hours to let things clear up.

I am thinking about installing a spin down filter to help with the grit. Is this a good idea? At least the spin down can be flushed out without having to replace a filter. I was thinking of a 100 or 140 mesh filter. Does the spin down filter get installed after the pressure tank, or before? I'm thinking after, but wanted to double check.

rusco

Since it is only 6 months ago there should be some kind of warranty with drilling the well:confused:
So they should come out and take a look at it. If not I would let it run for 2 hours like they said and see if it clears up.

My very old shallow well also pumps up sediment and I installed a Rusco sediment trapper a few years back that works really good.Size 140 will do...get the stainless steel screen.

The well is only about six weeks, not six months. i am sure there is a warranty...and I would probably have to go through the builder....but I called the company directly to save time.

The well co. seems to think that we just havent pumped enough water through the well yet...and running it for awhile will help clear it up.

That Rusco spin down is the exact model I am thinking of installing. I just need to measure/calculate my flow rate.

Forget the filter. Call the driller and tell him to pump the well off like he should have when he finished. You should not be getting any junk in the house if the well was developed properly.
