No Water

Help. My toilet tank will not fill with water. There is a sound of water filling the tank, but no water is actually there. If the tank is filled with water from a bucket, it will flush, but it will not fill by itself.

Without seeing the valve we cannot be sure of what is happening, but most likely the fill valve is defective or plugged allowing a small amount of water to enter the tank, which is the sound you hear, but not enough to fill the tank except over a long period.
