On a shower, What problems can be caused by this? Odor and anything else?

Thanks for any replys :)

Odor, slow running drain, difficult to snake drain would all be common to that installation. It is against all codes that I know of for that reason.

I believe that amounts to what is called a "running trap", and I have two of them. The one for the tub/shower (about 16' of 2" pipe) is relatively new and working fine, and the one for the washing machine (same size and length) has been trouble-free for its entire four years. However, both traps do have 3/4" drain plugs that are easily accessible just in case either might ever need cleaning.

Installations like that are usually installed by people who think anyone can do plumbing, and all you have to do is add more pipe if you move something. There are many reasons that the one proposed and those which are working are illegal, even if they do work to the satisfaction of the installers. Why not just have one trap, with a 3/4" plug in the bottom, in the entire house and run everything to it? It would install and work the same way.

Running traps

Did you also run another 16' to the vent, or did you just leave that out as unnecessary,
their is a reason why plumbing codes are written the way they
are ! ! !

The trap blocks decaying crud and other gasses from coming back into the house. That long horizontal run will have a scum of soap, body oil, shampoo, hair, and conditioner accumulate on the insides. If there was a trap, it would block any smells from that. But, with is so far away, it can't do that job.

Neither. Rather, and while knowing virtually nothing about codes at the time, I simply decided against having traps in the proper locations and unvented.

Yes, and when I asked about the issue(s) after someone had told me a "running trap" was not acceptable, nobody responded at all ... and I seldom do things "just because". But from what Jadnashua has said, I can see why I will likely end up changing at least the one for the tub/shower.
