Help! We helped our son and daughter-in-law buy a "fixer upper", and now we are in the process of helping them fix it up. I wanted to replace the plastic handles on the bathtub faucet, so I took one with me to the local home improvement store, but could not find anything with the same shaped "insides" (6 sided). So I resigned myself to simply cleaning/replacing the old ones. Except that now I can't find the other handle.
The only name we could find on the faucet was "Union". Do they still exist? Is there anything we can do, short of changing out the whole assembly?

A handle with a hex adapter is probably a "universal" generic replacement. Union Brass I think is not still available, but a large plumbing supply house may have handles. Best bet is to take out a stem ( if it is three handles, you can take out the middle one without turning off the water main). Take the stem with you to the store.
In the old days the common name for Union Brass faucets was "Gopher", but do a web search for "union brass faucets" and you may find what you are looking for.

We found all manner of hex shaped fittings/adapters, but they won't work. The faucet handle on ours is a MALE hex fitting, rather than a female.
Monday I will take it to a plumbing supply shop and see if they can help.

This sounds like the company you're looking for, see if they have the parts you need:

Thanks very much for that link. Not very familiar with UB out here, and did not know they were still around. Wouldn't it be neat if Kohler could put all the parts for all their faucets on 5 posters like that!

The posters would have to be billboard size!
