We just moved into a new home, house is 50 years old and we tried using the washing machine for the first time and water flooded everywhere. The previous owner has a old 2 inch pipe that feeds directly into a drain in the floor. The drain has a cap sitting near by that looks like it's original.

Before I call anyone, I am suspecting that the drain just can't handle the water and that the washer needs it's own raised drain going directly into the system and this drain capped. After a closer inspection it looks like the previous owner just dealt with the flooding.

I took it out and put the floor cap back on and just ran it above the p-trap on the main line. Didn't flood. I am going to do something more permanent.
