A Fernco is the right coupling to use only if the pipes will be covered, but I question the wisdom of using galvanized pipe especially under concrete. Sooner or later that galvanized pipe will be a problem.

the galvanize pipe is joined via a 45 deg elbow to the cast iron and i had to cut the pipe so that i could do the join.

I'd cut the cast iron joint off then go with a Fernco from the CI to the PVC.
