Special Order Hose Bibbs

Anyone ever had to do this in the plumbing biz?


I just ordered a 16" hose bibb from Woodford a couple weeks ago, years ago I ordered 2-30" hose bibbs for an old building in Cincinnati.


What irks me is how many of these hose bibbs I've seen that weren't long enough and installed anyway.


I don't know if it is because they don't know they are available, or just don't want to wait for them to come in.

I ordered a 16" bibb to get me into the second joist which was 4.5" away from the band joist, the rock foundation wall only gave me a sliver to do any connecting so I just went to an open cavity to do the connecting.

I should give myself a cookie for that ingenuity.

The bibb busted between the two joists, the real reason I went longer.

I ordered several longer ones for that very reason...
A couple of guys noticed when I picked them up at the supply house and placed orders...
They stock them now.

If the bib burst it is because a hose was left on, if the pipe burst then a different story.

What difference would the longer bib make as opposed to soldering on a copper nipple and not having to make a second trip?

30 inch frost free hose bibs are nice....

I think Rugged means is a non commercial plain old

the water supply line further back into the warm part of the

building...


I have had to drill through 20 inchs of concrete before and
the longer ones really work great.....


of course they can still freeze and break if the hose is left on..

but that is just another service calll..

The Woodford I have claims it will not freeze when a hose is left attached. Never wanted to go there! Do know it is a pain the way it drains after being turned off. Also found that with lower well water pressures, it produces too much loss in pressure.
