Any suggestions why my shallow well jet pump shuts down on the thermal overload after running ten minutes? After cooling it runs again for another ten before stopping again.
I answered this on Speedbump's forum... ummmm why post the same thing in 2-3 different forums when the same pump guys post in all of them? It prevents others from learning, it costs the guys that donate time to reply more time etc. etc..
I will check it out this weekend.Sorry for the double posting! Can I jam the pressure switch closed to see if it will run longer than ten minutes if I don't have an ampmeter?Sort of primative. How long should a pump be able to run without a problem? Thanks!
You asked if you could jam the pressure switch closed to see if the pump would would run more than ten minutes . I would think that if the pump motor is shutting off because of thermal overload the pressure switch contacts would be closed . The contact points in the pressure switch ( if working properly ) won't open & shut off the pump until the preset cutoff pressure is reached . Instead of jaming the contacts shut just open a tap & wait for the pressure to drop enough for the contacts to shut themselves & see if the pump runs . Are you sure thermal overload is what's stopping your pump ?
Thanks to all the great leads posted, I eliminated all options until I got to the pressure tank. The bladder had leaked out all of it's air over the last few years causing the pump to short cycle and over heat.We filled the bladder to proper pressure and all is well.
Thanks for all the help!!!
