I recently had an ejector pump replaced 3 months ago. The other day I noticed the rubber coupling on the low end of the check valve developed a split/leak. I went to the local plumbing supply store for a replacement. the discharge pipe is 2"copper - the check valve is 2 inch copper. I was told I needed a 2" rubber coupling with worm clamps.

No problem attaching to the check valve but, evidently, 2" copper pipe is not the same O.D. as PVC. Now, in fact, I have tightened the coupling to the copper pipe. Even though there seemed to be quite a bit of slack - no leak. I am concerned that this will only last a while before the coupling splits again because of the slack take-up.

Is there a better way to make this connection? Is there a rubber sleeve I can put over the copper pipe to take up some of this slack?

those clamps have a tendencey to vibrate loose
over time....

If you are up for it,
I suggest a quiet check valve that does not thump
and vibrate and dis-lodge itself

There might be some advantage to a flexible coupling, but a pro-flex coupling might provide a better solution. Check out this: http://www.fernco.com/docs/PlumbingShielded.pdf. I think what you want is on page 30.

Both of the above posts are excellent ideas for your consideration.
