I'm researching a project from Australia for manufacture in the USA. Can anyone tell me please;
What is the most common thread type for general garden use over there. I've been lead to believe it is NPT. Can you tell me if IPS is a standard size and if either of them are equivilant to BSP (thats what we use 9 times out of 10 in Aust.) Any clarification would be appreciated. Cheers.

Equivalent is a relative term. They are not readily interchangeable. The USA uses the IPS standard for most applications. Specific applications such as fire hose attachment have varying standards and require adapters for interconnectivity.

In my past job we were quoting on a sewage and irrigation station on Australia and they called for BSP threads.
Not sure if that is the norm but that's what they specified.
We had a BSP fitting and the thread tapers so a IPS fitting will start to thread but cannot thread completely.

Check this out http://www.gewinde-normen.de/en/whitworth-pipe-thread.htmland http://www.gewinde-normen.de/en/npt-pipe-thread.html. They're close, but not the same.

Thanks for all the responses. Seems that IPS is the standard over there, yet I cant see the specification for it on that international thread standards website. Any clues?
