Brass to Copper Connection

Hi, I'm a DIYer and have an old (1950's or so) bathtub faucet I need to change. The pipe leading to it is brass (looks like 1/2 inch I think). I would like to cut the brass pipe to remove the old faucet and then install a new single handle faucet. My thinking is connect a copper pipe to the brass pipe and then install the new faucet connected to the copper pipe.

My question is: Can I simply cut the brass pipe and solder a copper pipe to it using some type of connector? If yes, what is the connector called and can I use the same flux and solder I normally use when going copper-copper?

That might be a threaded brass nipple. But if it is truely brass pipe, check the OD, if it is the same as copper pipe of equivalent size, you can treat it as if it was copper and solder away using a copper coupler.

Thanks Jim! I am not home right now to check, but if the OD is not the same as the copper is there something else that will allow me to connect the two?

Can't think of anything. But, if that goes into a current valve, and didn't come with the valve as part of the trim/install package, it's probably standard pipe size and you could solder to it...brass solders to copper just fine.
