I just tidied up a 200amp service panel that's been fine for several months but the wires were a mess (unorganized and crowded). A double pole 30amp breaker on the dryer however tips immediately now. the common trip thingiy (bar) popped off and I noticed that only one side was tripping...switched the wires and the same side trips...what's this trying to tell me?

thanks
Paul

what color were the wires on the breaker?
(Did you take the white wire and land it on the neutral bar?)

red and black

didn't even disconnect these wires during the process.

replaced the breaker and it worked fine

(doesn't mean I did everything right, but it seemed to fix the problem)

I used to work in an electronic lab around electrical engineers who would build prototypes of new products. These would have a wiring "rat's nest" and work perfectly fine.

Then they would clean it up and route the wires so it looked nice. As a rule, these frequently would no longer work! :)
