Is there a 25" toilet bowl?

Just a quick question. Does anyone know if a company makes a toilet bowl that has a 12" rough in measurement with a 25" measurement from the wall to the front? I am only seeing 27" as the smallest and thought I saw one that was 25".

thanks!

interesting question

I am sorry that I don't have any answers just another question. I am a non-plumber getting interested in plumbing questions for reasons of self-preservation. I have seen the term "rough in measurement" on this forum in quite a few different places and I am wondering what it means. Perhaps you could let me know. THanks, Ruth

"Rough-in" when applied to a toilet means the distance from the finished wall (not baseboard) to the center of the flange opening. The holes in the toilet skirting that the flange bolts go through is inline with the center of the opening also. Typically toilets will fit even if there is less than there specified rough-in distance. There will just be less space between the back of the tank and the wall. The standard rough-in is 12", but there are toilets that are 10" and 14" rough-in. If there is a choice, opt for the 12". There are many more toilets and models of toilets available at 12" than with the other sizes.

flange

ok, I think I get it. But that brings up another question that I have been wondering about for several days. What is the flange? I realize this is child's terminology to most of the people on this forum, but I honestly don't know. If I get my husband and my plumber to agree to put in a new Drake toilet (as per my thread elsewhere), I figure I ought to know this stuff. Thanks a mint. Ruth

A toilet flange is the fitting at the end of the pipe that connects to the toilet. It is supposed to be bolted to the floor, then two bolts fit into it that hold the toilet. Typically, to complete the seal between the toilet and the flange, they use a ring of wax that gets smushed down when setting the toilet in place. Once set in place, the toilet can't rock, or you'll get a gap in the wax ring...so, the toilet must be shimmed to sit flat, if it doesn't on your floor.

I am only seeing 27" as the smallest and thought I saw one that was 25".

When I was looking for a small toilet, the smallest were one piece round bowl. Even then, I think the projection (installed) was closer to 26 inches assuming the tank was an inch off the finished wall. I think that was a Kohler.

FYI: Don't get a American standard "Compact"
I went with the American standard Compact EL and found that it tends to plug up at the flange. In the end I had to rent a rotozip and grind off the entire flare. I don't know why they put such a small flare opening on a toilet.

Edit:
I forgot to mention that the American standard "Compact" round bowl is about 26 inches and the EL(elongated bowl) is 27 inches.
but... like I said, it likes to plug up due to the sharp corner before the flange.

When will the toilet company's realize that people don't release round pieces.

Ruth, thanks for the hijak. :p

So can anyone tell me if there is a 25" front to back dimension toilet available and if so, any where I can purchase something like this? Thanks.
