I dont know much so please keep that in mind when I describe this.
I have a cabin on a lake. The water system is designed to pump water from the lake (about 380 feet away and 80 feet below, give or take) to 3 pressure tanks in my pumphouse where it is pressurized and fed into my home. Over the winter I had the main line in freeze and shatter. We replaced 140 feet of the line, the electrician said when the line broke the pump ran until the overloads popped and while he could get it going he said as soon as we put a load on it it would probably go. Sure enough it did, once the line was fixed we fired it up, air started to come out of hose bib next to pump house then the 50 amp breaker running the pump blew. My electrician said the pump was rated at 24 amps, 240v about 7.5 hp??? After it blew he tested amp draw which was about 160 amps which he said means it is in what he called a locked position. He said the pump should be replaced. It sits about 25 feet deep in the lake.
My questions:
What should I expect this to cost me? (guess best case worse case?)
What is a good pump?
