Hello,

I searched, but could not find the answer to this question. We have an old house that has a floor drain we want to convert to a sink drain. How do we do that? There is a floor bowl, and an opening that seems to fit some standard pipe size, but just putting a pipe into that hole doesnt seem to be enough, I think there is a vent hole or something that causes the water to back up into the bowl, and then drain slowly.

1, is it possible (and legal) to convert the floor drain to a sink

2, what fitting do we need to make this work?

Thanks!!!

If there is a trap in the floor you have to bust the floor to remove the trap. Then the drain for the sink needs to be properly plumbed.

how do we tell if there is a trap in the floor?

In many cases you can just look down the pipe and see it.

It doesn't matter whether there is a trap under the floor or not. You have to repipe the drainage so the sink is properly connected.
