Just got started around using plumbers putty on a job. Had a few small leaks in
a hose connection going through a tank wall. Gravity inside the tank, about 2'.
The plumbers putty stopped the leak great.

How good is plumbers putty over time? Will it do the job for awhile?

I used some last week on plumbing for a well. I ended up with several spots with very slow leaks. Drops here and there. The plumbers putty seemed to cure those right up.

Is it really the answer on small leaks like that?? Seems so to me.

Plumbers putty will not last the way you have used it.

Plumbers putty is used for setting faucets to sinks and drains to sinks. It is not for the application you described.

Plumber's putty has several very specific uses, none of them are to repair leaks in piping. Keep using it for everything and you will be well on your way to getting a B.A. in handyman plumbing.
