Where exactly on the Reliance 501 water heater is the reset button? I am asking because the water heater is in a hard to reach location and we want to know exactly where to look for it. Thank you

It's behind a plate where the thermostat is located. The reset button is red, and it is often covered with fiberglass insulation.

Be aware that once you take off the outer cover to the thermostat compartment, you are exposed to live electrical wires. There should be plastic guards over the terminals to prevent casual touching, but those guards sometimes show up missing. Just be careful.

If you are needing to press this reset to have the water heater turn back on there is a safety related problem that should be troubleshot by a qualified individual. This button only needs to be reset when the water in the water heater has been heated beyond the "safe limits" of operation. Your water heater is failing to shut off at the proper temperature for some reason.

Please protect yourself and your family call in a pro!
