I don't know much about wells, but I do know that I have a high water table as I had to dewater a 15 ft deep sewer line trench, pumping somewhere around 40gpm. We could really use the water to reduce our costly water bill.

How can I economically access the water to irrigate our trees and lawns? Our water is very expensive. The area needing irrigation is about 20feet above the ground level of the area where we found the water. That is, if we dig 20 feet to get water, then we will need to pump 40 feet vertically.

I am getting the sense that a "point well" is the way to go, and have some questions:

Would a 2" well point be sufficient for irrigating a large property? How do I go about installing it? Is it easy enough for an overzealous weekend warrior to accomplish?

What size pump & bladder pressure tank would I need?

A 2" point may not provide enough water if you have a large area to irrigate. It is hard to get enough screen into the water table.

Since you have found water at a depth you can dig to it might be worth putting in a gravel packed well with a casing large enough to accept a submersible pump. That should give you lots of water as long as the aquifer has a reliable supply.

Your best bet would be to get a pro to work with you to develop the well.

If I were to dig a large trench (say 15' deep and 20 feet long), what sized gravel would I use to backfill. Also, would an 18" perforated casing be good enough?

Lastly, any recommendations on a bladder tank and pump. I am wondering what size tank and how powerful a pump I would need.

Many thanks
