Bathroom Fan

I was at Lowes looking at bathroom vent fans. They had Broan 80 CFM for 68 bucks. The bathroom size is 9 x 6. Rm 2 is 7 x 6. I got a bit of info from the internet but just looking for some 'pro' advice here.

1. Is that model ok.
2. What should I get for CFM and Sone
3. Will they install on a wall, not just a ceiling?
4. Are the light/fan units ok too?

Can't comment on that particular unit, but I do know that most BR fans are not intended for vertical mounting.

I got a Panasonic for that reason, as well as the fact that they are very well built and VERY quiet.

Note - I didn't say they are cheap.

I agree, Redwood! Mine move enough air in my master BR that it pulls the bedroom door open.

Sones are a measure of noise...the higher, the louder. Some of the best fans have a sone value of less than one. Down there, it is hard to hear it running. In a bathroom, it's not bad to have multiple changes of the air an hour, so calculate the volume of the room, then figure the cfm, and see how long it would take to exchange all of the air, then see how many times/hour.

Personally, I like a fan to be a little noisy as opposed to being totally silent if it's for a main bathroom....gives you some "covering fire" when you're "dropping bombs."

I deeply regret going with the cheapest (therefore loudest) bathroom fan. I can't even use it when people are sleeping because it will wake the whole house up. I guess my bombs aren't big enough to worry about. Go for quiet. You won't regret it.

I'd much rather hear one than smell one. A good fan will remove it fast and not wake up the dead in the process.
