I've got 2 questions for a site just like this one! :)

1. I have existing ABS pipe that I need to cut into to add a T fitting. Can this be done without using the rubber sleeve with o clamps? How do I glue both ends and get the new T over both sides before glue sets on first side???

2. I want to upgrade my shower fixture to 3/4 inch feeds both hot/cold water supply... I can get 3/4 cold no problem, the hot is 1/2 feed off the hot water tank. Can I simply convert the 1/2" hot feed, to 3/4 and run to shower fixture? Pressure would be ok filling the 3/4 with 1/2 feed from tank!

Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated!

#1. You should use no-hub connectors, not the neoprene Fernco sleeves. The sleeves are only to be used underground.

#2. You will not upgrade your shower by going to 3/4" pipe. A 1/2" pipe will supply all of the water a shower can put out. You will not change the pressure by increasing pipe size.

Need a little clarification...ABS is used for drain lines, and can handle normal domestic hot water going down the drain. ABS is NOT spec'ed for supply of potable water as far as I know (??). So, the question is, is it really abs. ABS is black. CPVC can be used for potable water, but is light colored, never black.

If it is CPVC, you might be able to use a Sharkbite slip fitting.

The ABS is black and it's a vent pipe that I'm rerouting a bit.. I want to T into the existing ABS and put a T adaptor in running another pipe sideways... You can't cut out a section and glue in a T getting both ends over before glue dries?...

The shower is being upgraded to include body sprays, etc, 6 fixtures, the thermo valve is 3/4 supply (hot and cold)... I have 3/4 cold right near it, the hot is only 1/2 coming off tank. Can I just convert the 1/2 to 3/4 for the hot? Is there a minimum distance the 3/4 length has to be before getting to shower? To allow filling, pressure while in use??

Thanks!

What is it you don't understand about a no-hub connector?

I glue both at once. Glue fitting both sides, glue pipe both sides, shove together. If you are trying to glue then walk over to the pipe the glue will dry. I and most other plumbers glue next to the pipes in question. Walking around will let the glue dry.

good luck

Yes you can just remove the 1/2' copper pipe from the hot side of the water heater and put in 3/4" as for the abs if you have play in the pipe you can just cut out enough pipe for the tee and glue both sides and push them together.

Unless the at least one side of the cut can be moved back far enough to get the tee onto the other piece and then the movable one brought back and inserted completely into the tee, you cannot do it.
