Spontaneous Tank Cracks

Has anyone heard of toilet tanks cracking without any apparent cause such from being chipped, a hard impact or over tightening? I had heard somewhere that the ceramic molding and firing process can create unequal stresses in the tank material.

happens a lot

yes this will happen every so often. just stress and the thghtness of the bolts on the old china ,,ect....

We had some newly weds break a tank one time., lots of added stress to the fixture with them bounceing up and down on it , I guess.

I have seen it happen many times. 95% of the time it is an older American Standard tank for some reason.
