Trying to identify a well system part

Hi - A part on the pipe leading from the submersible pump into the basement is leaking. I am guessing it is a pressure regulator or check valve. Would anyone know what it is? I put up a photo of it on imageshack.

It looks like it could be an air injector or a pressure regulator. Do you have a water treatment system?

We have a water softener.

If it is an air injector, you should have an air release tank, filtration media filter,and then maybe a water softener. I would call a local water treatment guy and see if they do repairs.
