I am a new homeowner of one month with a private well, I believe it is original to the home built in 1976. Yesterday my water supply completely shut down (sinks, toilets, showers). Had plumbing guy out, he said it was the EcoWater filtration tank or the water softener tank that shut down the water supply, since water ran fine directly from the well pump. EcoWater person came out said "something (sediment) was in the well water" which caused his system to shut down. I am running water out the hose pipe (bypassing the filtration and softener) for the past 45 minutes, it is running cloudy and in spurts.

Help!

P.S. When home inspector came out a month ago, he apparently ran the well water furiously which had been sitting unused for awhile; it took 4 days for a plumber to clear the sediment from the plumbing afterwards.

I don't know what this material is, but if it shut down the softener, it is probably ruined.

Now that you've tried all the wrong guys, call a pump/well person in the area and have them tell you what it is that coming from the well. Then you can deal with what it will take to fix it. Maybe just a good flushing will make it clear again.
