I have a hand dug 8'x2' well. I want to feed a 3/4" hydrant 275' away with a total of 12-14' rise from well intake. I am watering garden only. Would like to control from hydrant head and for it to back feed into well for frost free protection. Can a sump work? What size pump, line?

Thanks Ken

No a Sump Pump won't work. They don't make enough pressure.

If you tell us how many gallons per minute you need and at what pressure, we can tell you what size pipe would be best for that distance.

I am watering newly planted trees and flowers. Not sure what the gallons per minute would be needed, not much I imagine. I am not spraying or sprinklering a lawn just feeding water to plants and trees around a 40' patio.

What do you think

I don't think you answered the question.

We don't have any idea of what your doing, that's why we need something to work with.

How much water and pressure does one need to water 20 newly planted trees and shrubs? After running the line 275' with an up hill slope of 6' from a well 8' deep? I figure on putting in a hydrant at the end of line and use a 3/4"x 20' hose for watering. I just don't know what the pressue of volume would be?

A lot of times if you read the advertisement for the pump it will give a graph showing how many gallons it will lift to what height. It's a trade off. The less lift you need the more gallons you get.

I might add that on my machine tools, they use sump pumps to pump the coolant to the work area. There is no restriction (back pressure) and the lift is only about 4'-5', but depending on the rpm of the motor they can really pump the coolant. If you are just transferring water from one area to another with no back pressure and little lift, it should work fine, depending on the pump of course
