My Carrollton Gurgles??

After much research both here and elsewhere I bought myself a TOTO Carrollton toilet as part of our bathroom reno. But when the contractor installed it, I think he must have done something wrong.

Whenever anything gets added to the bowl (liquid or solid) the toilet starts to gurgle. :confused: It's as if the additional mass is pushing water over a ridge where it falls onto more water. After a few minutes it stops. It also stops when I flush.

This doesn't seem right to me and I was wondering if any of you could help point me in the right direction. Is this normal for all low-flow types of toilet? Is this symptom an indication of a bad install?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

The Carrollton use a Unift adapter that fits to the closet flange.
Since the fitting is plastic, you do hear the water leaving the bowl and trapway for a bit after use.
It's sort of a drip, drip, like a clock ticking.
When capillary action has stopped, then things quiet down.

Since the trapway on most toilets are molded into the porcelain, and even though it too wicks water for a while, it isn't noticeable like it is in the Carrollton.

All bowls on toilets will overfill during a refill.
Most refills take about a minute.

It's somewhat like the clock in your car. When the car is new, you hear it. After using it for a few days, you will notice that you don't listen for it anymore.

Nice choice on the Carrollton; I put one in one of my suites. It's a very "pretty" unit.

Like Terry said, the Carrollton model is a uni-fit installation that uses the plastic exposed trapway. If you crouch down and look behind the toilet, you will see that the back of the base of the toilet is actually open and you can see the exposed plastic trapway. I can only guess that if the base was sealed off instead of open at the rear, that you wouldn't hear the noise of the water spilling into the trapway. And like Terry said, you'll get used to the noise and eventually it will become unnoticeable background noise.
